COVID-19: How live-in care can help you

12 May 2020

In the long term, we believe that there is a need for a transparent public debate about various care options available for older and vulnerable people, as well as the way in which the care professions and their contributions are being perceived in our society. We believe that the current healthcare crisis requires an immediate evaluation of all the care options available for older and vulnerable people and a prioritisation of those services which can deliver safe, effective and high quality care with better chances of limiting the further spread of COVID-19.

Over the past month or so there has been an increasing need to free up hospital beds due to the pandemic, and the go to for many is residential homes. However, there is a greater risk of cross-contamination in care homes and recent data from the National Office of Statistics shows that between 10th April – 1st May 2020 there have been over 6,000 deaths in care homes due to COVID-19, causing concern for those who may be considering the option for any vulnerable adults. This is why live-in care is being regarded the safest way to receive care at this time – it also proves to be a cost-effective option for those being discharged from hospital. Due to the 1-2-1 service provided, live-in care helps to reduce the risk of spreading any infection as support is given from one or two carers (dependant on need) each day.

Why is live-in care the safest option?

  • Our carers undertake extensive infection prevention and control training, and their own health and well -being is closely monitored by our Care Team professionals to ensure they are able to provide care and support on a daily basis.
  • 1-2-1 care means our clients will only be in contact with the one (or two) live-in carers (dependant on need). This ensures continuity of care as well as reducing the risk of cross infection or contamination.
  • Companionship – alleviating the effects of loneliness
  • Flexibility – receiving care at home gives our clients the flexibility to live their life how they choose to. There are no set times to get up or go to bed, they are able to set their own times for meals and can keep contact with friends and family whenever they wish.
  • Peace of mind – live-in care can give loved ones’ peace of mind whenever they need it with consistent contact with the care worker.

Promedica24 has been continually following national guidance issued by the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England to ensure the safety, health and well-being of our staff, clients and partners during the COVID-19 pandemic. Guidance is constantly being communicated with staff and clients to ensure individuals are aware of all preventative measures, in addition to their standard infection control procedures.

“As a health and social care provider, Promedica24 takes the health and well-being of its staff, clients and the local community very seriously and has procedures in place to work alongside the Government to manage and mitigate risk. Our contingency plans ensure we are well prepared for pandemics, such as COVID-19, and our leadership and management teams in the UK and Poland are monitoring the situation daily, to ensure we can continue to provide the best quality of care. We are working together with our clients and their families to ensure people are kept well and will do whatever we can and need to do to this end.” Paula Beaney, Quality Assurance Director

How Promedica24 are responding to coronavirus (COVID-19)

As a company we know how important the continuity of our service is. We are using own transport logistic solution to get care workers to and from contracts and additionally to that some of our care workers currently in the UK are not wishing to travel at all during this time, meaning their contracts have been extended to enable them to continue providing our vital live-in care services.

Our care managers are following social distancing guidance and ensuring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is delivered to all of our clients and to ensure they are safe and well at home with their care workers.
