Motor neurone disease home care

Motor neurone disease is commonly referred to as MND. Our live-in carers support you to stay in your home for as long as possible as the condition progresses. From help with everyday tasks to more involved personal care needs, our live-in care workers help to preserve dignity and independence and allow you to enjoy life to the fullest.

Caring for a person with motor neurone disease

As the symptoms of motor neurone disease can be varied and mild in the early stages, people can adapt to cope or family can support them. As the disease progresses, muscle wastage can become pronounced and daily activities can become difficult to manage. Our live-in care workers are trained to offer MND support in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary medical care available, extending the time that your loved one can stay at home in comfortable, familiar surroundings.

It’s important that a client feels in control of their treatment and as many aspects of their life as possible, as they find they have less and less control over their body. Our motor neurone disease care plan is tailored to each individual case and reviewed on a monthly basis by a visiting Promedica24 care manager. A client may include advance directives within the plan upon discussion with the care manager, care worker and those with power of attorney to agree future MND care plans.

Whether you use Promedica24 for short-term respite care or for long-term MND home care, we’ll take the same professional approach to assessing a client’s care needs to help them live as fulfilling a life as possible in the comfort of their own home. We present a selection of companions based on our clients’ interests, personality and lifestyle, you then choose the most suitable fit. You can keep the same care worker for up to three months at a time before they take a break. At which point, they will alternate with another care worker that you have also selected, who is just as suitable as the first.
